Welcome to our first episode in our new format! We reviewed the HBO documentary, State of Play – Trophy Kids. We hope you enjoy our own insights into over zealous parents and their interest in their children’s sports.
Here is the synopsis from HBO’s website:
State of Play is a cutting-edge documentary series from filmmaker Peter Berg that explores vital themes in society and culture through the unifying lens of sports.
Parents are increasingly dedicated to leading their children towards a professional sports career, sacrificing everything for this singular goal. State of Play follows their “trophy kids,” documenting the rigors placed on them by their obsessive parents eager to see them make it.
Happy Friday listeners! We are new this week with a somewhat controversial topic, participation trophies. We have all seen the memes and jokes about children receiving participation trophies, but we wanted to have a real conversation on the topic and the background behind the trophies, pros and cons, and does it really make our children entitled? We were surprised with what we found and how our own opinions changed.
